November 3, 2010 Leave a comment

OCN BLIZZARD (10-4-1-2) 23 Points 4th in the Sherwood Division

DAUPHIN KINGS (9-9-2-0) 20 Points 5th in the Sherwood Division

The Dauphin Kings welcome the OCN Blizzard to Credit Union Place this evening for the first of eight meetings during the regular season.

The Kings were happy about their first and third period efforts in Swan River on Saturday, but a lull in the second period lead to a 4-3 loss to the Parkland rivals. The team also lost Matt McAleenan in the middle frame with a broken ankle and early indications are that he could be out until mid-January. In addition Mathew Backhouse is day to day with an upper body injury and forward Angus Klassen is expected to decide soon if he is able to return this year because of an ailment. Either way injuries continue to follow this club in November.

New acquisitions Shamus Graham and Jesse Sinatynski are expected to make their Kings debuts tonight after being acquired by the club yesterday.

Dauphin will also be without Mitch Van Teeling as he is in Penticton, British Columbia for the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge. Speaking of that Challenge, Canada West also has Blizzard goaltender Matt Krahn and Assistant Coach Jomar Cruz. OCN will have defenceman Dale Warkentin back in the line-up this evening as well as forward Denis Restoule. The team will be missing defenceman Dallas Drysdale and forward Brock Friesen. Blizzard play-by-play voice Jamie Smalley confirms TJ Constant is good to go and Ryan Delorme will get the start in the crease for five straight games while Matt Krahn is away.

The Blizzard lost their last four games to conclude October and enter November with a balanced schedule of six home and road games. Dauphin had just two wins in their last six October games and will play eight of twelve games this month at Credit Union Place, an arena they’ve lost their last five outings in.

Looking at the Sherwood Division, the Blizzard are three points up on the Kings for fourth entering play tonight. Neepawa continues to find ways to win as they now have eight in a row.

The Swan Valley Stampeders and Portage Terriers are tied for the Division lead with 13 wins and 28 points. Nine points separates the six clubs within the division.

Dauphin Kings update November 2nd

November 2, 2010 Leave a comment

The Dauphin Kings pick up two eighteen year olds with WHL experience; defenceman Shamus Graham and forward Jesse Sinatynski.

Graham had a brief stint with the Regina Pats last season as a seventeen year old; he also had one assist and two penalty minutes in a single game with Regina this season.

Kings Head Coach and General Manager Marlin Murray says Graham has leadership qualities, skates real well, competes, and is a “go-through-the-wall” kind of player.

An early season injury this year prevented Graham from playing with the Spokane Chiefs, which opened the door for the Dauphin Kings to pick him up.

Graham is friends with Jesse Sinatynski, who is also from Fort Saskatchewan Alberta. Sinatynski started the season with the Kamloops Blazers and was re-assigned to the Alberta Junior Hockey League on October 28th.

Sinatynski played in 3 games with the Blazers and scored 1 goal after being acquired from the Brandon Wheat Kings earlier in the month. In 2009/2010 with the Wheat Kings, Sinatynski had 10 points in 27 games as a seventeen year old.

Marlin Murray says that Sinatynski skates well and is skilled; he also hopes that Sinatynski will be a strong line mate for Captain Shane Luke.

Meanwhile the injury bug continues to linger with the Dauphin Kings. Defenceman Matt McAleenan broke his ankle on Saturday, he is likely out until mid January. Fellow rearguard Mathew Backhouse is day to day with an upper body injury.

Dauphin Kings trade 20 year old forward Travis Cech to the Battlefords Stars of the SJHL in exchange for 20 year old forward Louis Labbe and future considerations.

Cech suited up in 13 games with the Kings, compiling one assist and nineteen minutes in penalties. Labbe doesn’t have any available statistics with the Battlefords Northstars; he has spent time with the Flin Flon Bombers and the Trenton Golden Hawks of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Kings trade Harcoff and Podolsky

The Dauphin Kings ship goaltender Leo Podolsky to the Huntsville Otters of the Ontario Junior Hockey League; they also deal defenseman Jacob Harcoff to the Miramichi Timberwolves of the Maritime Hockey League. Both transactions see the Kings receive future considerations.

Podolsky played in three games with the Kings, compiling a 2-0-0 record to go along with a 3.51 goals against average and a 906 save percentage. Harcoff meantime has two assists and eight penalty minutes in nine games with the Kings.

Kings and Clippers notes Oct 14th

The Brandon Wheat Kings designate defenceman Kyle Krzyzaniak to the Dauphin Kings for assignment. Kings Head Coach and General Manager Marlin Murray anticipates having Krzyzaniak for the remainder of the season, but there’s the possibility that he could go back up to the WHL. The Wheat Kings have dealt Krzyzaniak to the Spokane Chiefs for a 12th round pick in the 2011 Bantam Draft. Also Krzyzaniak’s Junior ‘A’ rights belong to the SJHL’s Humboldt Broncos, but reports indicate that the Kings are working on acquiring them.

The Dauphin Kings alsodeal 20 year old defenceman Colin Paull and future considerations to the Flin Flon Bombers of the SJHL for 19 year old defenceman Matt McAleenan and 19 year old forward Alex Serafini. Murray notes other pieces, such as Serafini, were included in the trade just so the future considerations part of the deal could clear through without waiting 48 hours. McAleenan will make his Kings debut tomorrow versus Portage.

Kings trade Gaudry, add Bembridge and Holmes

October 7, 2010 Leave a comment

The Dauphin Kings are focused on getting younger in 2010/2011.

They deal 19 year old defenceman Tyler Gaudry to the Neepawa Natives in exchange for a pair of 18 year olds; goaltender Ryan Bembridge and forward Quinton Holmes.

Gaudry has played in all nine Kings games, collecting a goal and two assists to go along with four penalty minutes.

Holmes has 2 points in 7 games with the Natives and Bembridge had an .800 save percentage and had seen limited action, dressing in only four games this season.

With Bembridge now a King, Leo Podolsky is no longer with the club and Dauphin is looking to trade him. The Oakville Ontario product wanted more playing time, but Kings Head Coach and General Manager Marlin Murray expects Brett Willows to play between 40 and 45 games this season so Podolsky wants an opportunity to be a starter. Murray liked the work of Podolsky and had no problem with the player whatsoever.

- Forward Colton Graf is not expected to play at all this weekend. Murray said today that Graf is awaiting to have an MRI on a lower body injury he suffered against the Winnipeg Blues last Friday. Meanwhile players like Eddie Friesen, Colin Paull, Matt Backhouse and Jeremy Peeke are very close to returning to the line-up.

- Newcomers Josh Daley and Dayton Shaw will make their debuts in Dauphin colours Friday versus Selkirk. Ryan Bembridge and Quinton Holmes did skate Thursday afternoon with their new teammates.

We’ll have Sunday’s broadcast on CKDM between the Kings and Terriers starting with the pre-game show at 6:15. During the broadcast we’ll talk to King newcomers Calvin Cairns, Dayton Shaw and Josh Daley.

The Kings release defenceman Brett McKernon, who played in seven games this year registering 26 penalty minutes.

Grondin played in all nine games with the Kings picking up one assist while Esposito did not play in one game for Dauphin.
