Dreger becomes a Knight!

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s only 50-goal scorer last season commits to the Neumann Knights University hockey program.

Graduating Dauphin King Ryan Dreger will suit up for the school based in Aston Pennsylvania, which plays out of the Eastern College Athletic Conference.

With his hometown team, Dreger finished the regular season with 53 goals, 46 assists for 99 points, which was second in the MJHL scoring race. Dreger also led the MJHL in power play goals with 17.

During the MJHL Playoffs and ANAVET Cup, Ryan Dreger collected 7 goals and 13 assists.

David Anning signs with the Saints

David Anning is getting a promotion… with a different organization.

After spending two seasons with the Dauphin Kings, Anning leaves the organization to become the new Head Coach of the Winnipeg Saints; the team the Kings defeated on route to their first MJHL Turnbull Cup since 1993.

Anning has been an Assistant Coach and Director of Marketing with the Kings and Saints during his MJHL Coaching career. Anning takes over from Keith Cassidy despite signing a three year contract extension with the Kings back in May. Anning also won the ANAVET Cup trophy with the Kings this past season.

The search for a replacement for David Anning is ongoing as the club looks to get someone in as soon as possible.

I personally had the pleasure of working with David for two seasons and wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors!

Former Dauphin King dead at 47

Dauphin product and former King Perry Nakonechny has lost his life as a result of cancer.

Nakonechny played with University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux, collecting 27 goals and 38 assists while winning the 1987 NCAA national hockey title.

Perry Nakonechny is survived by his wife of 21 years, Mickie, daughter Brenna and son Tyler.

The funeral for Nakonechny will be Saturday in Grand Forks North Dakota where he passed away. Perry Nakonechny was 47 years old.
